Universal Basic Smartphone front and back

The Universal Basic Smartphone (UBS) is a project by Oyster Labs that aims to get every smartphone user rewarded for the digital footprint that they share through their smartphones and other privileges like cashbacks on trades and purchases through the OysterEarn app and installed dApps. The phone also gives users control over the kind of data that is shared and the ability to opt out.

The Universal dApp Store comes as part of the package, giving users access to more than 600 decentralised apps in TON ecosystem, but not limited to TON network.

The UBS has apps like OysterEarn, Universal dApp store and Uniwallet that come pre-installed to complement the user’s smartphone experience.

Launch

A claimed Founder Pass NFT

The phone was first listed with a pre-sale price of $99, with the first 12,000 Founding Series sold within three days after the announcement. The presale was launched in the wake of TON Blockchain Hackathon (TON Hacker House) ending on 4th April 2024. There was widespread speculation at the time that TON was working with HaskKey alongside Oyster Labs in the process of working on the phone.

Each founding Series UBS comes with a claimable Genesis NFT that allows the user to get exclusive benefits, surprises and data dividends. The 2nd batch pre-order Friend with Benefits (FWB) edition UBS is currently (June 2024) being sold at US $129.99 with a standard shipping fee of US $30. The Founder Pass entitles each claimant 10 Universal Points, While the FWB pass equates to 3 Universal Points.
